Questioning the things we are praising in the relationship we have with our child can really help us understand the possible effects & how to do this more effectively.
If we have noticed people pleasing tendencies in our oldest son who is 10, how do you help him recover from that besides stopping the “good jobs” all the time?
Hi Tammy,
How about you speak openly to your 10yrs about this? Explain to him what being in people-pleaser mode is all about. Tell him that you’ve noticed this and want him to be authentic. You can double-check things with him and give him time to think things through when situations arise. So ask him something like, “It’s okay if you answer “no” to this; do you want to take some time to think this over?”.What do you think about this Tammy?
